Rally to defend Sarah Jama

Montreal, October 26, 2023 

Desmond Cole, Judy Rebick, Rima Berns-McGown, the President of Hamilton Labour Council, the Ontario New Democratic Youth Chairperson, the head of the NDP Black caucus & anti-racism critic and others will be speaking at an emergency webinar Friday to defend Ontario MPP Sarah Jama. On Monday Jama was censured by the Ontario legislature and expelled from the NDP caucus for her support of Palestinians. A growing number of groups and individuals are protesting the treatment of Jama, including more than 3000 who’ve emailed the NDP to immediately reinstate her.  

“The political elite’s treatment of Sarah Jama highlights a nauseous mix of anti-Palestinian and anti-Black racism in Canada”, said Bianca Mugyenyi, director of Canadian Foreign Policy Institute.  

“Sarah Jama has been treated terribly for supporting long-suffering Palestinians”, noted Bianca Mugyenyi.  

“7000 Palestinians have been killed in recent days, and yet a politician who speaks out in defence of their lives is punished. This is a great shame,” said Bianca Mugyenyi
